William Beasley Obituary

William "Glenn" Beasley, Jr., 83, of Cape Charles, Va., passed away on February 8, 2026. He was preceded in death by his sons, Mark Louis Beasley and Daniel Ellis Beasley; parents, William G. Beasley, Sr. and Mary O. Beasley; and brother, Michael W. Beasley. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his wife, Mary Wilkins Beasley; and daughter, Maryglenn Beasley Phillips (Ernie); grandchildren, Kendal (Joe), Jessie (Alex), Jordan (Michael), and Madison; great-grandchildren, Braeden, Laney, Jaxon, Connor, and Jameson; brother, James Lonnie Beasley; sister, Anita Beasley Fields (Ray); also close to his heart Margie and John Bessler, and the twins, Trevor and Travis Wright, whom my parents lovingly brought into our family 50 years ago and we never let them go.

Glenn served in the United States Navy in Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He spoke fondly about the Cuban people and their culture, noting especially how he loved the weather and the ten-cent beer.

Upon retiring from the Navy, Glenn worked for over 30 years at Philip Morris, alongside his brother, Jimmy, as sheet metal mechanics. He was excellent at his craft and proudly served as a shop steward for many years. Glenn loved his job and the opportunities to build long-lasting friendships. After his retirement, he reluctantly moved to the Eastern Shore with Mary, where they lived for over 20 years. Glenn loved fishing, Monday night poker, dinner with friends, but above all else, he loved his Shore friends dearly. After many years of love and laughter, Glenn decided it was time to come back home to Chesterfield to be with his family.

Glenn coached all of his children and countless others in football, baseball, and softball in the Chesterfield County area. He was the founding member of the Chesterfield Girls Softball League and continued as commissioner until he went on to be Head Coach of Post 137 American Legion Baseball Team. Glenn was recognized in 2015 by induction into the L.C. Bird Hall of Fame for founding the LCB Athletics Booster Club in 1978. He served as the first president, the officiant at the track meets, and volunteered on the football chain crew for 25 years. Glenn was the ultimate sports lover, and it was fitting for him to have passed on the day of the Super Bowl.

The family would like to extend special thanks to all his Shore people for looking out for "The Beez" / our "Pop".

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on March 21, 2026, at American Legion Northampton Post 56, 21210 N. Bayside Rd., Cheriton, VA 23316.
