William Thomas Naumann
February 26, 1939 - October 27, 2025
William "Tommy" Naumann of Mechanicsville, who recently resided at the Masonic Community of Virginia, laid down his hickory stick for the last time on the morning of October 27th at age 86. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy and Otto Naumann Jr; brothers, Charles and Otto III; and grand nephew, Matthew Naumann. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Janet; his son Tommy (Elaine); grandchildren Justin (Crystal and son Duncan) and Caroline (Tripper); nieces and nephews, Donald (Debbie), Linda, Sheila (Dan), Larry, Chip, Dorothy, and Leslie; grand nieces and nephews, Brett, Bryce (Jessica), Kadie, Courtney (Corey) and Melisa (Scott); And a multitude of cherished family and lifelong friends.
Tommy, affectionately known as "Gramps," was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in nature and the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed making lasting memories with his family on the boat or dock, reeling in impressive catches and trekking deep into the woods hunting. Tommy felt such joy sharing his passion for fishing and hunting and mentoring others to feel the same. He and Janet traveled the world with friends, their adventures spanning across six continents. Tommy was a proud supporter of his family. He attended graduations, sporting events, holiday celebrations, dance recitals and milestone events, always showing up with a big smile, endless support and a pack of Nabs. Known for his quick wit and sense of humor, he had a joke ready for every occasion and a way of making everyone around him laugh. He loved telling stories and sharing his life experiences at gatherings and social events. He especially cherished time spent with his loved ones and relaxing at the family's river house in Deltaville, where countless memories were made. He was a graduate of John Marshall High School, and spent his life in or around the Richmond area. Tommy and Janet retired from Burruss Burial Vaults in 2011. He shared his wisdom freely, was full of generosity, morality and charity. Tommy was a 40-year member of the Washington and Henry Lodge No. 344. He was also a member of The Valley of Richmond Scottish Rite. Tommy lived life to the fullest and was one of a kind.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Tommy's life and share their memories with family on Tuesday, November, 4th from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Masonic Rites will be at 6:30 p.m. at Bliley's at Staples Mill: 8510 Staples Mill Rd, Richmond, VA 23228.
The memorial service will be held on Wednesday, November 5th at 11a.m. in the chapel at The Masonic Home of Virginia: 500 Masonic Lane, Richmond, VA 23223. The service will be followed by a graveside gathering at 1 p.m. at Riverview Cemetery: 1401 S Randolph St, Richmond, VA 23220.
