William Winston Schaich

1928 - 2022

SCHAICH, Mr. William Winston, born September 12, 1928, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2022. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, of 63 years; his parents, John Oscar and Margaret Winston Schaich; one brother, Robert Oscar Schaich; and two daughters-in-law, Brenda and Lynn Schaich. He is survived by his children, Michael, Margaret Holmes (Butch), Linda (Badr) and David; three grandchildren, Kristen Schaich, Nick Holmes (Candice) , and Ryan Holmes (Kristen); and six great-grandchildren (Conner, Libby, Mae Louise and Emmy (Nick). Willow and Ford (Ryan)).

William served in the Navy. He became a mechanic at various places including 43 years of service at Dyke Tire and Battery. Bill was an excellent mechanic. Bill loved working. He was as he said 94 years young; he was planning on living to 108. Bill loved Nascar; he watched the races regularly. His recent favorite driver was Kyle Busch.

Bill was as one neighbor put it the most popular man in the neighborhood. He was always checking on his friends. Special thanks to Susan, Dennis and Cathy, Anna, Hope, Jim, Jorge and Barbara, who kept up with him regularly.

Bill battled heroically against bladder and kidney cancer. He took Keytruda treatments in hopes of a cure or helping others to learn from his experience.

A service will be held on November 18 at 10:30 a.m. with visitation at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 4491 Springfield Rd., Glen Allen, Va. 23060. In lieu of flowers, you may make donations to the church's music ministry or your favorite charity.
