William Snead Obituary

SNEAD, William "Pete" W., William W "Pete" Snead of Richmond, VA passed away Wednesday, June 12, 2024. He was 80 years old.

Pete was born into a working-class family but enjoyed great success through hard work, determination and perseverance. He truly lived the "American Dream."

Pete started working as a young boy to earn enough money to see movies, purchase a bicycle as well as his first car before he was even old enough to drive. He worked alongside his father in the road construction industry and learned how to operate heavy equipment. He was especially adept at operating the motor grader and became well respected as one of the best.

Pete had a love for road construction, working for several of the most elite firms in the Richmond area where he met many life-long friends and associates. He lived by the creed that anything worth doing was worth doing well.

At age 60, when most people are considering retirement, Pete founded Forty-Two Contracting, Inc. and 42WWS, LLC. These were the first of several companies he founded with his sons. He was especially proud that all three of his sons and both grandchildren work there today.

Pete loved his family as well as his "work family." He cared about everyone he worked with and realized the importance of their role within his organization. He fostered an environment where everyone could be successful.

Pete was such a positive influence on so many. His family, friends and co-workers were all especially important to him. He believed in the goodness in people and supported dozens (sometimes financially) to help start a new business or to simply help in a time of need. He was always willing to lend an ear and offer advice.

Many words have been used to describe Pete. Determined, kind, generous, sincere, and even legendary are just a few although his life may be best summed up the by lyrics of the Frank Sinatra hit, "My Way." Pete was truly one-of-a-kind.

Pete leaves behind his loving wife of 58 years, Donna W Snead; his three sons, William W "Pete" Snead Jr, John E (Alison) Snead, and David W Snead as well as his grandchildren, John C (Jack) Snead and Caroline E Snead. He also leaves behind his oldest brother, Troy R "Buddy" Snead Jr of Clover, SC.

Services and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to your favorite charity in Pete's honor.
