Terry L. McConnaughey, age 79, of Hillsboro, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 26, 2025. Though our hearts ache in his absence, we rejoice knowing he has entered his eternal home and joined Sue. "Well done, good and faithful servant."
Terry was born on July 10, 1946, in Hillsboro, Ohio, the son of the late Carmon M. McConnaughey and Elsie Ellen (Caplinger) McConnaughey.
Terry grew up in Hillsboro, attending the Hillsboro Church of Christ. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1964. During high school, Terry played basketball, baseball, and ran track. After graduation, Terry went on to play baseball at Morehead State University, where he obtained his bachelor's degree. Morehead was very special to Terry; he met the love of his life there, Sue Carol Goins. They would go on to marry and have 50 wonderful years together.
After college, Terry returned to Hillsboro and began a career in teaching. He would be the Hillsboro City Schools Elementary physical education teacher for 35 years. He coached boys and girls basketball and boys golf during his career at Hillsboro. As a teacher and coach, he built character, shaped lives, and modeled integrity in everything he did. He truly loved the kids he taught and coached.
Above all, Terry was a devout Christian. He shared his love for the Lord with his children and grandchildren. Terry had a weekly men's bible study group that he loved attending both for the studies and the friendships! He has remained a member of the Hillsboro Church of Christ from childhood until his passing.
Terry is survived by his two children, Leah McConnaughey of Hillsboro, and Kyle (Amy) McConnaughey of Wilmington; three grandchildren whom he adored, Ezra Golden Rand, Bailey James McConnaughey, and Emery Hazel Grace McConnaughey; four siblings, Joan Kendall of Hillsboro, Carmean Williams of Carl Junction, Missouri, Tim McConnaughey of Washington C.H., Steve McConnaughey of Hillsboro; Ezra's dad, Gregory Golden Rand of Hillsboro and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sue Carol Goins McConnaughey on April 3, 2020; a brother, James "Jim" McConnaughey; mother and father-in-law, Grover Neville Goins and Vanita Grace (Arnold) Goins.

Terry´s love of life and the town of Hillsboro was only superseded by his absolute love and devotion to his beautiful wife and family. His dedication as a Christian leader in the community was obvious to all who were privileged to share life with him. We knew both Terry & Sue as students at Morehead State University in the 60´s and Sue was in our wedding. They both were tremendously loved by everyone who surrounded them. God has welcomed them back home in his grace of eternal life. We miss both you and Sue.
