William H. Melvin

William Harvey Melvin departed this earth on Wednesday, April 29, 2015, to join his Savior and his beloved wife, Vedabelle Morgan Melvin, who preceded him in death in 2001.

He was born April 10, 1921 to Alva and Anna Elizabeth Shoemaker Melvin on the Hiser Farm, which was located on Slate Hill Road in Marshall Township, Highland County.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Elmer Howard Melvin; and a sister, Effie Delphia Melvin Ballein.

He is survived by two daughters, Brenda Sue Bradds (Stephen) and Pamela Rae Schirner (Robert); grandchildren, D'Anne Sweet (Jerry), Blaine Bradds (Tammy), Jonathon Sirinek (Courtney), Gregory Sirinek, Nathan Schirner (Erin), Ian Schirner (Keisha) and Alison Schirner Black (DJ); great-grandchildren, Anthony and Zachary Bradds, Regan and Devin Black, Nicholas and Alan Sirinek, Annabelle and Lukas Schirner and Savanah Schirner; and great-granddaughter, Raelynn Bradds.

He graduated from Whiteoak High School in Mowrystown in 1940, and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II from 1942-45 as an electronic technical supervisor in charge of installing Independent Landing Systems. He was also the commander of the Jamestown Radar Station, working there from the time it opened until it closed. William then retired from Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. He was a lifelong member of the Bowersville Church of Christ and served his Lord as elder and teacher for many years.

Calling hours will be at the Littleton Funeral Home, Sabina, Friday, May 8, from 5-7 p.m. Graveside services will be held May 9, at 1 p.m. at the Union Cemetery on Taylorsville Road (next to the Union Church of Christ), Highland County.
