Brian Kozera Obituary

Brian R. Kozera passed away suddenly on Saturday August 13, 2022. He was 44 years old. Born April 19, 1978 in Cincinnati, OH he was the son of the late Richard and Virginia (nee Utter) Kozera. He was the devoted father of 3 daughters, Paige, Josephine, and Avery and the loving husband to Kristin (nee Heckman) Kozera, with whom he shared 17 years of marriage. Brian was a graduate of Wissahickon High School Class of 1996, graduated from Albright College Class of 2000 and earned his master’s degree from St. Joseph’s University in 2010. A lifetime public servant, Brian joined the Norristown Police Department in 2006 where he achieved the rank of Corporal. During his time on the force, Brian served as a Use of Force Instructor for the department as well as for the MONTCO and Temple University Police Academy’s. He served on the NPD Bicycle Unit, spent time as a School Resource Officer and was dedicated to the job and the community. In 2001 Brian joined the National Ski Patrol at Spring Mountain where over the years he held multiple roles of leadership including a time as Assistant Patrol Director and his current position as head of the Outdoor Emergency Care program. In addition to Spring Mountain, Brian also volunteered at Bear Creek Mountain Resort and Valley Forge Nordic Patrol. Brian’s passion in life was competing, coaching, teaching, and motivating others. He began racing long distance endurance events in 2010 and never stopped. He completed many races including marathons, Tough Mudders, and Spartans but he found his home in racing Triathlon in 2013 when he completed his first Ironman. He had gone on to complete 5 more full distance Ironman events in addition to countless other triathlons. Brian’s light shone brightest when he was coaching and motivating others. He became a USAT certified triathlon coach and was a member of the coaching staff for the Spring Valley Multisport Gators and Andy Potts Racing. At the time of his death, he was training for the Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii – a lifetime goal of his. Brian was larger than life and always gave 100% of himself to whatever he did. His family was the center of his universe, and you couldn’t find a more dedicated husband and father. He will be remembered for his huge heart, his ever-present smile, his desire to help others and his “Go Big or Go Home” approach to life. In addition to his wife, Kristin, and their 3 daughters, Brian is survived by his sister Leslie Kozera, and his brother Matthew Kozera. Brian´s passing is tragic in many ways, but not the least of which is the impact he had on those struggling with cancer. His strength and perseverance thru sixteen chemo treatments was an inspiration to many, and his enthusiasm for life was infectious to all. We are deeply honored to have known Brian, and our prayers go out to his beautiful wife Kristin and their three precious daughters. May his memory live long in our hearts.
