John Hallman Obituary

John B. Hallman, age 84, of Appleton, Wisc., passed away on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013. He was born on Dec. 21, 1928, in Norristown, Pa., the son of the late George and Bertha (Bechtel) Hallman. John grew up in Norristown and Philadelphia. He graduated from Gillespie High School and Dobbin Technical College in Philadelphia.
John served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 until 1952. John worked his entire life as a heavy equipment mechanic on such projects as the I-95 along the East Coast. John's father and uncle, Eric, organized the purchase of the Hallman Grove land in the 1920s.
The Hallman Family Association was founded and George and Eric served on the first board of directors. This began the yearly Hallman reunions at Hallman Grove.
John is survived by his daughter, Vicki Hallman of Austin, Texas; and his wife, Virginia "Ginny" Johnson of Appleton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gene, and sisters Mollyo and Betsy. John and Ginny enjoyed 10 years together, including winters in their home in Tennessee, where John loved to tend his garden and the birds that visited it, and re-cane and restore chairs.
The memorial service for John will be held at Noon on Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at All Saints Episcopal Church, 100 N. Drew St., in Appleton, Wisc. The Rev. Patrick Twomey will officiate.
Memorials to Heifer International or your favorite animal shelter are appreciated. Online condolences may be offered at www.wichmannfargo.com.
John's family would like to thank the Home Instead Health Care and Heartland Hospice for your compassion and excellent care of John.
