Teresa F. O’Neill, 89, of York, PA died October 23, 2021 at home surrounded by family. Born October 1, 1932 in Dublin, Ireland, she was a daughter of the late James and Bridget (Hennessy) Smyth. Teresa lived in East Wall, Dublin until the age of 24. She lived in London for a year and then immigrated to Philadelphia in 1958 at the age of 25. Teresa met John J. O’Neill at the St. Joseph’s Home for Boys, where John cooked for the boys and Teresa cooked for the priests. They fell in love, married and started a family. A resident of Plymouth Township, PA for many years, Teresa volunteered with the religious education classes of St. Paul RCC in Norristown, the Girl Scouts of America, and drove her children and their friends many miles for sports and activities. Teresa moved to York, PA to be close to the youngest grandchildren. Teresa was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and sister who loved spending time with family. Teresa was especially known to love gardening, crosswords, dogs, and of course, the Philadelphia Phillies. Surviving are her children, Teresa O’Neill of Lansdale, PA, Hugh O’Neill (Yvette May) of Boonsboro, MD, Linda (Chuck) Koch, of Gilbert, AZ, and Sheila (Bob) Shacklock, of York, PA; 11 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren; her brother James Smyth of East Wall, Dublin, Ireland; 2 sisters-in-law, 1 brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Teresa was preceded in death by her husband; her sisters Evelyn Gavin, Nancy McGibney, and Bridget Fernandez; and her brothers Samuel Smyth, Patrick Smyth and Noel Smyth. A mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, October 30, 2021 at 11 am Saint Philip Neri Catholic Church 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill, PA 17444 with the Rev. Monsignor Charles P. Vance officiating. A visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Burial will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers Memorial contributions can be made to Food to the Poor. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to the family at John W. Keffer Funeral Home, York, PA 902 Mt. Rose Ave, York, PA 17403.
