Henry Doyel Obituary

Jan. 22, 1927 - Jan. 29, 2006

Henry Doyel died peacefully at home. He was a resident of Vallejo since 1943, coming here from St. Louis, Mo. where he was born. He married Martha Jean Barraco in 1948, who preceded him in death in 2002 after 52 years of marriage. He is survived by two sons, Robert (Pat) Doyel of El Dorado Hills, Calif. and Steve Doyel of Vallejo; three grandchildren, Kelly (Darryl) Azouz, Kevin Doyel and Alexis Doyel; and one great-grandchild Zachary Azouz; brothers, Tom Doyel and Gordon Doyel, both of Ridgecrest, Calif.

He worked at the Benicia Arsenal from 1947 until its closing in 1962, then transferred to GSA retiring in 1979 as Regional Director of Quality Control. He joined the Army in 1945 and served in W.W. II and the Korean Conflict as a member of MacArthur's Honor Guard. He later helped establish the National Guard Unit in Benicia, Calif., working his way to retirement as a General.

He was very active in youth sports throughout the 1960's, '70's and '80's. He played softball in Vallejo for over 30 years as one of Vallejo's best fast-pitch pitchers. He had the opportunity to catch for the Oakland Oaks Pacific Coast League prior to entering the Army in 1944.

He was a lifetime member and past master of the Masonic Naval Lodge No. 87, a member of the Scottish Rite, Ben Ali Shriners and Order of the Eastern Star.

He was a member of St. VincentÕs Parish and served as a lector for several years.

He was a friend to all and his family will miss him dearly.

Contributions are preferred to Shriner's Hospital for Children, Northern California, 2425 Stockton Blvd., Sacramento, 95817 or Springbrook Memorial Endowment Fund, 101 Temple Way, Vallejo, Calif. 94591.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. with a 5:30 p.m. Masonic and Eastern Star service Thursday, Feb. 2 at Skyview Funeral Chapel, Vallejo. A Mass will be held 1 p.m. Friday at St. Vincent Ferrer Catholic Church, Vallejo. Entombment will be at Skyview Memorial Lawn, Vallejo.
