On Saturday, Jan. 26, Rachel "Gramiere" (Dokes) Daniels moved from Glory to Glory. Rachel Daniels was born Feb. 8, 1924, to Ernest and Jesse Dokes in Hammond, LA. Rachel was one of nine siblings who has all preceded her in death, brothers, Sonny, Henry Jr., Charles, Ozzie, Lawrence and Alfred (Dokes); sisters, Maeola (Dokes) Cousan, Ruth (Dokes) Brumfield, and Marion (Dokes) Wells. The family joined St. James AME Zion Church. Rachel attended schools in Hammond, LA.On March 10, 1941, Louis Daniels and Rachel Dokes married and out this union 10 children were born. Rachel also was a nurturer and raised other children, four preceded her in death, Vivian Daniels, Louis Jr. (Mane), Howard (Buddy) Daniels, James Johnson and Donald Daniels. Surviving children are Mary Lou Carlyle, Shirley Johnson, Lynda Daniels, Louise Daniels, Gail McCarver, Carolyn Teasley and Jackie Garner.In 1944, Louis and Rachel moved to Vallejo. Rachel joined Kyles Temple AME Zion Church in 1945. She served as an Usher, a faithful and willing worker for Christian Education Department, Women's Home & Overseas Missionary Society and became Deaconess Emeritus when her health prevented her from serving. Rachel has served her family and friends for over 60 plus years providing childcare, wisdom and love to all who entered her life.Viewing will be Friday, Feb. 8, from 3 to 6:30 p.m., quiet hours 6:30 to 8 p.m., at Kyles Temple AME Zion Church, 902 Florida St., Vallejo, Pastor Rev. Shawin E. DuBois. Homegoing services, Saturday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m., at Union Baptist Church, 128 Encerti Ave., Vallejo, Pastor Rev. James McCoy, with Pastor Frederick J. Stewart, Officiant and Dr. Rev. David T. Miller, Eulogist. Burial to follow at Sunrise Cemetery, Vallejo.Arrangements entrusted to Wiggins-Knipp Funeral Home, 524 Capitol St., Vallejo.

Some people say angels don't exist...well...one was just relocated to heaven from our midst. My selfish side hate to see her go, but my spiritual side is rejoicing because heaven has just received one of earth's best. She was a living example of what we should strive for in life. Many times she has provided meals for the hungry, shelter for those down on their luck, and comforting words for those who needed it. She was all these things while simultaneously enduring life's pains and struggles that would break the faith of many. She has endured seeing some of her children pass...but she kept on being the angel we know so well. And last but not least, she managed to perform her ushering duties at Kyles Temple AND at every funeral in Vallejo! No matter who passed, Mrs. Daniels put on that Kyles Temple usher uniform and had one of her darling daughters take her to the church. For those of us who make it to heaven, look for Mrs. Daniels in uniform at the gates!

Dear Daniels Family, please know we are praying for you during your time of lose. Your mother was a living legacy of 'love' that she has shown through her many acts of kindness. She always had a smile and opened her home and heart to many - she always exemplified the spirit of Christ in her life. Her life was the epitome of courage, vision and deep faith, an example worthy of emulation by all who knew and loved her.

We can only bow our heads to the will of God. May each of her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren find peace and solace in the inspiring memories of a life well lived!
