Terry was a union colleague, a neighbor, a City employee & retiree colleague, a good friend, a consultant and always a teacher. He rowed his own boat! But he was generous with his wisdom & time. He didn't fit any mold, either. Can't believe I can't pick up the phone or drive over afew blocks to contact him. He always had answers for my questions. A very unique person, as well. Could not imagine being his supervisor or manager! He was exceptionally bright. Few understood. The neighborhood folks liked Terry a lot, too. He was kind & considerate. He was also very tall & substantial so he was always easy to spot! His labor connections made him popular with service staff as he loved to eat out and well. His reputation preceeded him...in his neighborhood, his union, his workplaces, the SF Labor Council, the Democratic Party (many levels), & many City departments. He was truly unique. He was also highly respected for his mental acuity, his dedication to labor, and his willingness to share his knowledge and time with others. He has been greatly missed. But he has not been forgotten! I doubt he ever will be as he was that unique!

I met Terry as a fellow activist in the California Federation of Young Democrats and in activities and campaigns involving the Burton's. He was a great guy and a splendid raconteur. I remember well when he enthralled a room full of Young Democrats with his description regarding the special nature of politics in San Francisco. Tales of Phil and Johnny and Bob Burton, Willie Brown, Dave Jenkins, George Hardy,Harry Bridges, Joe Beeman.....the battles on behalf of working men and women...Civil Righrs and on and on. I have been privilege to have met Terry Ryan along the way...
