WILKES-BARRE — Alberta C. Petyo, 92, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Monday, Aug. 22, 2016, at her home.
She was born on Sept. 5, 1923, in Wilkes-Barre, a daughter of the late William and Catherine (Kumor) Perkosky. Alberta attended Marymount Parochial School and Meyers High School.
Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Pomeroy's Department Store, in Wilkes-Barre.
Alberta was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. She was also a member of the Wilkes-Barre Township Senior Citizens Club and a former member of many local social clubs.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, John E. Petyo, in 2001, and by her brothers, Stanley, William, Bernard, Joseph and Chester Perkosky; sisters, Mary Zugarek, Anne Vogen, Genevieve O'Lexy and Sophia Glowacki.
Surviving are her daughters, Lorraine Petyo-Elias, of Plymouth, Christina Petyo-Kugler and her husband, John, of Springfield; son, Robert Petyo and his wife, Ellen, of Wilkes-Barre; grandchildren, Heather Elias and Darren Elias and his wife, Heather, Emily and Elizabeth Kugler, James Torbik, Rebecca Bieber and her husband, Matt, and Jonathan Torbik; great-grandchildren, Tyler Elias, Gabrielle Van Horn and Avery Bieber; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, 40 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105; or to the charity of the donor's choice.
