Aldo Castellani Obituary

Aldo A. Castellani, Stroudsburg, formerly of Wyoming and Pittston, returned to the loving arms of the Lord on February 14, 2009.
He is survived by his beloved wife Anna B. (Kaczmierzewski) Castellani, with whom he celebrated 64 years of marriage on October 28.
Born January 19, 1925, in Pittston, he was a son of the late Antonio and Elisa (nee Luigia Collettini) Castellani. Aldo experienced the hardship of the Great Depression, including the sudden death of his father in 1932.
Through the courageous decision of his mother, he received his elementary and secondary education at Girard College in Philadelphia, graduating in January 1942. He cherished his “Steel and Garnet” days and remained dear friends with his Girard classmates his entire life.
Following graduation, Aldo returned to the Pittston area and was employed in numerous positions, including operating his own business, Bridgeway Service Station, in Wyoming. Eventually, Aldo entered the insurance field and became a very highly regarded claims adjuster, first for Trethaway Insurance Agency and then The Hartford Insurance Group, from which he retired after 22 years in 1987.
He was respected for his fairness and consummate professionalism.
An avid golfer, he would gladly go a round with anyone and everyone, not infrequently twice in a day. He was the ultimate gentleman golfer and no one will ever forget the wonderful aroma of his ever-present cigar. He was also a devoted New York Yankees fan who could throw a wicked curve ball around a tree and spent much of his summers listening to a game on the radio or watching on TV.
Aldo was predeceased by a daughter, Andrea D. Flores; son Anthony; and a sister, Elda Gillespie.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are two sons, James J. Castellani and wife Catherine, Marlborough, Conn., and Thomas C. Castellani, East Stroudsburg; daughter Judith T. Biffen and husband Dr. Donald, Stroudsburg; and three sisters, Rita Gubitosa, Mary Zorzi and Pauline Gilmartin. In addition, he is survived by six grandchildren, Jason Flores, Aldo and Aaron Castellani and Stephanie, Andrew and Sarah Biffen; and four great-grandchildren (soon to be five); numerous nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and brother and loyal friend, Aldo will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.
A special thank you to the staff of New Eastwood Rehabilitation and Care Center, Easton, for their care of both Aldo and his wife over the past six months.
As per his request, cremation will be held at H.G. Smith Crematory, Stroudsburg.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church, 200 Brodhead Ave, East Stroudsburg, on Thursday February 19, 2009, at 11 a.m. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of the Mass at St. Matthews. Interment will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
The family requests no floral donations.
Arrangements are being handled by the Lanterman and Allen Funeral Home Inc., East Stroudsburg.

Remember

Remember me when I am gone away,
Gone far away into the silent land;
When you can no more hold me by the hand,
Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay.
Remember me when no more day by day
You tell me of our future that you plann'd:
Only remember me; you understand
It will be late to counsel then or pray.
Yet if you should forget me for a while
And afterwards remember, do not grieve:
For if the darkness and corruption leave
A vestige of the thoughts that once I had,
Better by far you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.

I met Aldo over 20 years ago. I found him to be an honorable gentleman who loved his family. My heart and prayers are with his family. Aldo will always remain in my heart as a fellow Girard brother.
