PITTSTON — Alfonso V. Mangione, 85, of Pittston, died Friday, June 15, 2018, in the VA Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre.
Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Peter and Rose Anzalone Mangione. Al was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Korea. He was self-employed in the trucking business for many years and was a heavy equipment operator. He loved boating, camping and fishing, especially with his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sharon; son Alfonso Jr. (Alfie); brother Peter; and sister Connie. Al is survived by his son Peter, of Pittston, son Barry, of New York, and his brother Samuel, of California. He is also survived by his granddaughters and his grandson, as well as several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday, June 18, from the Anthony Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the funeral home. The family would like to thank the staff at Celtic Hospice and Dr. Fino and his staff at the VA Medical Center for their compassion and care.
