Allen Garbus Obituary

Allen William Garbus, 92, of Glenmoore, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Brandywine Hospital, Coatesville.
He was the husband of Julie Banasick Garbus, with whom he shared 60 years of marriage.
Born in New York City, he was a son of the late Isadore and Reiscke Wilk Garbus. He was a graduate of City College of New York and received a master’s degree in chemical engineering from the University of Michigan.
He worked at American Viscose, which became FMC, and later worked as a consultant for PQ Corporation. He was a member of the Ethical Humanist Society of Philadelphia, member of the Professional Society of Engineers, an avid gardener and was interested in homeopathic medicine.
Allen served in the United State Maritime Service during World War II.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughter Catherine Garbus, of Tunkhannock; daughter Barbara Garbus and her husband, Chuck Broyles, of Glenmoore; daughter Amy Garbus, of Glenmoore. He is also survived by a brother, Lou Garbus, of Searsport, Maine; three grandchildren, Emelyn Fuhrman and her husband, Jeffrey, of Pittsburgh; Jesse Smith and Alyda Heeman, both of Tunkhannock; great-grandson Brock McClain, of Tunkhannock; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at the convenience of the family.
Memorials may be made in Allen’s name to the Henrietta Hankin Library, Attn: Marguerite Dube, 215 Windgate Drive, Chester Springs, PA 19425 or The Nature Conservancy, Attn: Treasury, 4245 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 100, Arlington, VA 22203.
Arrangements are by the Wentz Funeral Home, Coatesville.
