Allen Rooney Obituary

Allen R. Rooney, 73, of West Pittston and a resident of Kingston Commons for the past fifteen years, died Friday at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
He was born in Exeter, September 10, 1932, son of the late Richard Rooney and Jessie Schweizer Rooney.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception R.C. Church and the Holy Name Society, West Pittston.
Mr. Rooney was a graduate of Exeter High School, class of 1950, and attended Penn State University. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pittston; Ancient Order of Hibernians, Avoca; and the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Pittston.
Allen was an Army veteran, serving in the Korean Conflict, and was formerly employed as foreman of Consolidated Cigar Co.
He was preceded in death by a brother Samuel.
Surviving is his wife, the former Rose Yuchis; son Allen Jr., of Harding; daughters Colleen Basta and husband Anthony, of West Pittston, and Maureen Gaydos and husband Edward, of Wilkes-Barre; brothers Charles, of South Carolina, and Eugene, of Pittston; sisters Barbara Ann Vutano, of Florida, and Elizabeth Romanowski, of Harding; grandchildren Matthew and Mark Basta, and Leah and Heather Gaydos.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from the Anthony Recupero Funeral Home, 406 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
Friends may call Monday from 5 to 9 p.m.
