Ann Michaels Obituary

PLAINS TWP. — Ann Michaels, of Plains Township, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 9, 2015, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

She was born in Plains Township on Dec. 24, 1921, a daughter of the late Jurgi and Tofila Balchuite Pilwallis. She was educated in the Plains Township schools and was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, class of 1939, the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing in 1946 and Misericordia University in 1970.

She was the 3-11 nursing supervisor at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital for 25 years until she retired in 1986. She was also a licensed real estate sale agent and private duty nurse at Bayada Nursing.

She belonged to the Red Hat Society and volunteered at St. Vincent de Paul Kitchen. She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township.

She was preceded in death by her husband, George Michaels; her infant son, Joseph; brothers, Joseph, William "Mootz," Frank "Fritz," John and Petr.

She is survived by her son, George Michaels and his wife, Carol, Allentown; her daughter, Jane Walsh Waitkus and her husband, Frank, Mountain Top; grandchildren, Megan Walsh, Maura Conklin, Daniel Walsh, Christina Michaels and Melissa Michaels; great-grandchildren, Genevieve, Ryan, Cameron and Dylan.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Michael J. Mikelski Funeral Home PC, 293 S. River St., Plains Township. A viewing will also be held from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the services Thursday in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Dorchester Drive, Dallas.

Donations maybe made to St. Vincent DePaul Kitchen, Catholic Social Services, 33 E. Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

Dear Jane and family, Mrs. Michaels was a woman of faith, professionalism and compassion for patients, families and staff. I was blessed to know her for many years at wilkes barre general hospital as my supervisor and friend. Kindness and steadfastness would describe this beautiful woman.
