WEST WYOMING — Anthony S. Brown, 93, of West Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Oct. 23, 2021, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on Oct. 13, 1928, in Exeter, Tony was the son of the late Vito and Agnes (Lena) Brown.

Tony is survived by the light of his life and wife of 70 years, Rosemary (Rusak).

In addition to his parents, Tony is predeceased by his sister, Elizabeth Troy, and his granddaughter, Anna Jorda. He is fishing now with Anna in heaven.

Tony was the loving and supportive father of four: Susan Brown-Peitz (Timothy), Deborah Ann Jorda (John), James Anthony Brown (Dreda) and Maryellen Brown (Miles). He has treated his sons and daughter-in-law as if they were his own.

Tony was the proud grandfather and magician to all ten of his grandchildren: Adam (Tara), Joshua (Cathleen), Katharine (Enrique), Michael (Cassie), Jonathan (Stephanie), Kimberly (Abou), Jeffery (Lizbeth), Benjamin (Karissa), Lindsey, and Olivia. He was the adoring great-grandfather to: Nathaniel, Lily, Elise, Logan, Ousmane, Felix, Hailey, Haley, Margot, Rachel, Gloria and Timmy.

Tony is survived by his brother, Joseph, and his wife Barbara. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Tony was a natural and talented salesman. He retired from Sears and Roebuck in 1992, after 20 years of service. Prior to Sears, he was employed by Home Life Insurance Co. During his very first year there, he was the lead salesman, earning a trip to Italy. While raising his family in New Jersey from 1952 to 1970, Tony was employed at Elastic Stop Nut in Union.

Tony served as councilman with honesty and integrity for the Borough of West Wyoming during the 1990's. He was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed saltwater fishing at the Jersey shore and freshwater fishing in the streams and rivers of Pennsylvania and in the far reaches of Canada. He was also a skilled hunter.

He loved music, lending his bass voice to church choirs (impressing his soon-to-be wife as the Italian singing Polish hymns), and to a barbershop quartet, the Ebb Tides, the New Jersey State Champion of 1962. Tony was thrilled and proud to be the guest conductor of the Bergenfield High School orchestra at the age of 90.

He was a strategic card player, always seeming to know what was in his opponents' hands. In his early years, Tony was a bowler, scoring a 300 game while on his company team. He enjoyed golfing well into his 70's. He enjoyed following the New York Yankees and Giants.

Tony loved the wildlife that surrounded his home. From his deck overlooking the Wyoming Valley, he watched and fed the birds and his pet squirrel, who ate from his hand.

But, most of all, he was a family man — adoring his wife, supporting his children and grandchildren, accepting all who came into the family with open arms. We are all richer beyond measure because he was a part of our lives.

The family would like to thank Francie, Melissa, Linda and, especially, Cheryl from Bayada Hospice for their skill and kindness. They always lifted Tony's spirits and made him smile.

A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, in St. Frances Cabrini Church, 585 Mount Olivet Road, Carverton. Family and friends may visit Thursday morning at the church from 10:30 a.m. to the time of the Mass.
