LUZERNE — Bernard Derby, 84, of Walnut Street, Luzerne, passed away Monday, June 15, 2015, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
Bernie was born in Noxen on May 5, 1931. He was a son of the late Wheeler and Stella (Okraszewski) Derby.
Bernard was a veteran of the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as an Airman 1st class, Regular U.S. Air Force, on Oct. 8, 1953. He was a hard working individual. He was employed as a miner, test borer and independent truck driver.
He will be sadly missed.
Bernard was preceded in death by his wife, the former Doris Zimmerman; sisters, Dorothy and Dolores; brother, Ralph; son-in-law, Jack Brieling; brother-in-law, Frank Shepanski.
Surviving are a son, Bernard Derby and his wife, Debra; daughter, Karen Brieling; grandchildren, Aaron, Jennifer, Ashley, Aubree and John, loving caregiver with whom he resided; great-grandchildren, Noah, Hunter, Tristan, Harlan, Johnna, Ana, Lorelei and Alexa; brothers, Frank Derby and his wife, Betty; Ted Derby and his wife, Ann Marie; sisters, Norma Frazier and her husband, George; Leona Shepanski and Martha Casaldi and her husband, Ralph; numerous nieces and nephews.
A blessing service for Bernie will be held at 8 p.m. Thursday at the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.
