Bernard E. Kemsel, 89, of Wapwallopen, passed away Friday, Sept. 12, 2025.
Born in Dorrance Township, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Martha (Barchak) Kemsel. Bernard graduated from Newport High School and then from Wilkes College with a degree in accounting. He then served in the U.S. Marines and its reserves. Bernard worked as a special agent with the Criminal Investigation Division in the U.S. Internal Revenue Service for 30 years. He received the Albert Gallatin Award, the highest award from the U.S. Treasury Department. Following his career with the IRS, Bernard worked at Bonner's Chevrolet for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Rose Marie; daughter, Anne Marie Urbanski and husband, Jared; sisters, Regina Markowski and Dorothy Wengrzynek; several nieces and nephews; and his cats, Chloe and Squeaky.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Mary's Church, Dorrance. Interment will follow in the parish cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at McCune Funeral Home, Mountain Top.
