Carol Walkowiak Obituary

WILKES-BARRE — Carol Ann Walkowiak, 80, of Wilkes-Barre, peacefully entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 16, 2023 at Allied Services Hospice Center, surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Wilkes-Barre on June 15, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Phillip and Pearl Navola. She attended James. M. Coughlin High School, was later employed by the Wilkes-Barre Area School District and was member of Saint Stanislaus Church.

She married the love of her life, the late Joseph Walkowiak, on Nov. 25, 1961 where they lived together in the North End section of Wilkes-Barre for a blissful 55 years. Carol was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved cooking, dancing, playing cards and family gatherings. Carol created precious memories during quality time spent with family over food and laughter.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph Walkowiak and beloved daughter, Laurie Merritt.

She is survived by her sons, Joseph Walkowiak and fiancé, Deborah Audino, Philadelphia; Jeffrey Walkowiak and fiancé, Jamie Andrews, Wilkes-Barre; and her daughter, Deanna Herbinko and husband, Michael, Wilkes-Barre; brother, Charles Navola and wife, Carol, Dallas; and sister Diane Navola-Ninotti, Wilkes-Barre. Also surviving are nine grandchildren, Kristin Merritt-Zavada and husband, Andrew; Michael Merritt, Sarah Walkowiak, Cassandra Walkowiak, Connor Walkowiak, Michael Herbinko, Nicholas Herbinko, Joseph Walkowiak III, Juliette Cheney and four great-grandchildren, Piper, Evan, Scarlet and Lucas; as well as extended family, Jessica Roman.

Carol's family would like to express their profound gratitude and appreciation to the amazing staff at Allied Services Hospice Center for the compassionate care they showed both Carol and her family.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, 225 North Michigan Avenue, Fla. 17, Chicago IL 60601 in Carol's Memory.

Friends and family may call from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19, at E. Blake Collins Funeral Home, 159 George Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
