Ceil Ann Tierney, 77, of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully Saturday, Nov. 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in Highlands Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Laporte.
Born in Hanover Township, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret (Thomas) Tosh.
She was a graduate of Hanover Area High School, and a longtime member of the Wyoming Valley Striders and the former St. Aloysius Church, St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, Wilkes-Barre.
Ceil Ann was a devoted mother, sister, aunt, friend, devout Catholic, and a determined runner, having run many marathons, both prior to and following life-altering injuries. Her resilience and determination to overcome life's challenges were unmatched. She will be remembered as the remarkably strong woman she was every single day.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, William Tosh, Donald Tosh, and Terrence Tosh.
She will be sadly missed by her son, John Tierney, and his wife, Kimberly; sisters, Margaret Bergan; Betsy Noonan and husband, Pat; and Molly Tarutis; and brothers, Pat Tosh and Michael Tosh and wife, Peggy; numerous nieces and nephews; in-laws, Bill and Pam Challenger; and many cherished friends.
Funeral services will be held Monday, Dec. 1, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Barney and Division streets, Wilkes-Barre.
Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township.
A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, from Daniel J. Hughes Funeral & Cremation Service, 617 Carey Ave., Wilkes-Barre.
