SUGAR NOTCH — Christopher M. Pelchar Sr., 38, a resident of Sugar Notch, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2015.
Surviving are Yvonne, his wife of 16 years; son, Christopher M. Pelchar Jr.; parents, John and Carol Pelchar; brother, John Pelchar Jr. and sister-in-law, Jannene; nieces, Alexis and Katie; aunts, uncles and cousins; and his K-9 partner, Mason.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John and Stella Pelchar; and maternal grandparents, Carl and Theodora Schneider.
Chris, known to many as "Curly," was born Feb. 28, 1976. He resided most of his life in Wilkes-Barre until he moved to Sugar Notch. Chris attended school at Meyers High School where he enjoyed playing football and being a part of the marching band.
Chris will be remembered for his good sense of humor, love for music and being so proud of his son, who he called "Pal" and who was also considered his "Mini Me." Chris loved vacationing, especially in Lancaster with his family.
He enjoyed doing many things with his son, such as playing video games, cards and going to the shooting range. He would often spend days off picking up his son to go for a ride while talking and listening to music with no destination in mind.
Chris graduated from the police academy in 2003 and became employed by Sugar Notch, quickly moving up the ranks to his current position as chief. During his time with the Sugar Notch police, he had many accomplishments. He was one of the original founders for the annual Santa parade and received numerous grants for equipment, automobiles and supplies for the borough.
One of his biggest accomplishments was starting the first K-9 unit in the the borough, where he happily served with his partner, Mason, until an injury in 2013. Chris also sponsored various Little League teams.
His hard work, people skills and gift to relate to everyone will be remembered by many.
Chris was also a member of the Sugar Notch Masons, the United Police and Correction K-9 Association, along with Mason, graduated from the Northeast Police Academy, State Chief of Police Association of PA and was a past NRA member.
Chris was a member of the Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Catholic Church, Edwardsville.
Funeral services will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday from the Yeosock Funeral Home, 40 S. Main St., Plains Township, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Resurrection of the Lord Polish National Catholic Church, 35 Zerby Ave., Edwardsville. Interment will be in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Wilkes-Barre. Relatives and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Christopher Pelchar Sr. Memorial Fund at PNC Bank.
