David C. Jordan, 83, of Laflin, passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, Dec. 3, 2025, at his home.
Born Aug. 4, 1942, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Harold C. and Mary (Laity) Jordan.
Growing up in the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre, David was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Class of 1960, and was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving from 1960 to 1964. Serving aboard the USS Great Sitkin (AE-17), David was a participant in the blockade of Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. Upon his honorable discharge from active duty in January 1964, he was employed as a journeyman by International Color Press and Offset Paperback. Until his retirement, David was employed for many years by InterMetro Industries in Wilkes-Barre.
David was a member of the Plains American Legion, Post 558, the Polish American Veterans (PAV), Hudson, and Harvin, RAM, and Bear Hill Hunting Clubs. He was also a member of the former Abbott Methodist Church in Parsons.
David was known for his love of the outdoors, spending much of his free time hunting and fishing. He especially cherished fishing trips to Lake Ontario and hunting throughout various locations near and far. One of his most unforgettable experiences was a trip to Canada for a caribou hunt in the tundra. He was grateful to have gotten out for archery season this year, sharing one more hunt with his nephew and son-in-law.
When not enjoying nature, David could often be found with a good book in hand, preparing one of his delicious dishes in the kitchen, or traveling with family and friends to many wonderful destinations. A fan of friendly competition, David loved playing cards or throwing darts, enjoying laughter and camaraderie with those closest to him.
He and his wife, the former Mary Ellen McHugh, celebrated their 60th wedding Anniversary on Aug. 14, 2025. David cherished his wife and family and lived a full life, enjoying the company of his loved ones. He will be remembered for his quick wit and the joy he brought to every gathering. He will be dearly missed by everyone whose life he touched.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Mary; mother-in-law, Marie McHugh; and sister and brother-in-law, Anne and Earl Yale.
Surviving are his loving wife, Mary Ellen McHugh Jordan, Laflin; daughter, Jennifer Haas and her husband, John, Yatesville; granddaughter, Jillian Haas, whom he affectionately referred to as "Lulu"; brothers, Jeffry Jordan and his wife, Joyce, Hummels Wharf; and Philip Jordan and his wife, Daphne, Halfmoon, N.Y.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Maureen Umphred and her husband, Mark; Patricia Crahall and her husband, Adam; Margaret Torbik and her husband, Tom; and Jacquelyn Boyle and her husband, Michael; many nieces and nephews with whom he shared a special bond; Harry and Sharon Parri, and many other lifelong friends whom he considered family.
