HARVEYS LAKE — Douglas James Agnew, 59, of Harveys Lake, passed away Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Doug was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 27, 1957, and was the son of Betty Naugle Remley of Pikes Creek and the late Albert Agnew.
Douglas graduated from Lake-Lehman High School in 1975 and attended LCCC and Mansfield University. He was an outstanding wrestler for Lake-Lehman from 1973 to 1975. His accomplishments on the mat included district champ in 1974 and 1975, northeast regional champ in 1975, and a fourth place finish in states, 1974. When he wasn't working, Doug and his wife could usually be found out at the lake, hanging out on the boat or at the dock of his best friend, Mike. He felt especially blessed to be loved by so many friends who were there for him through everything.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by brother, Rick Agnew; and sister, Carol Davis.
In addition to his mother, Douglas is survived by his wife, the former Tracy Tomkins; sons, Jordan Agnew, of Harveys Lake, and Jake Agnew of Lehman; step-sons, Mark Kapitula and his wife, Colleen, of Sweet Valley, and Matthew Kapitula and his girlfriend, Tommie, of Dallas; brothers, Carl Remley, of New Hampshire, Robert Agnew, of Pikes Creek, and David Remley, of Wyoming; sister, Denise Moyer, of Lititz; grandson, Hunter.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, from the Maple Grove United Methodist Church, 5876 Main Road, Hunlock Creek, with Pastor Jim Pall officiating. Arrangements are by the Curtis L. Swanson Funeral Home Inc., corner of routes 29 and 118, Pikes Creek.

I am so sad to hear of Doug passing. I graduated with Robbie and attended the Maple Grove UM Church my whole life, so I grew up with the whole family. Betty I am so sorry for your lost of another child. I would bet the smiling face of Ricky was the first thing Doug saw in heaven. Ricky would have scooped his little brother up in one of his strong off the ground bear hugs he gave to everyone. Robbie and all of your family I am sorry to hear of this loss. Doug was a sweet and good person and will be missed.

Agnew was one of the all time great wrestlers from our area. As his
wrestling partner at LCCC he taught me a thing or two and he was a
super dude on top of that. I ran into Doug several times over the
decades and we always had plans to hook up but it never seemed to
materialize probably because I lived out of town. Doug is now amongst
the ancestors and my prayers will be concentrated on the Agnew Family
