Emil Kachmar Obituary

KINGSTON — Emil Kachmar, Division Street, Kingston, passed away Sunday, Jan. 5, 2014, at the Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Plains Township.

Born Dec. 5, 1926, in Kingston, he was a son of the late John and Mary Zoschak Kachmar. Mr. Kachmar was a graduate of the former Kingston High School.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Theater Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Medal.

Mr. Kachmar was a member of the United Brotherhood of Caprenters and Jointers of America, Local 645, Scranton. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by the Bechtel Corp. as a carpenter at the PP&L Power Plant, Salem Township.

Mr. Kachmar was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Chestnut Avenue, Kingston, and belonged to the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic War Veterans, Post 1856; the Kingston Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 283; and the Disabled American Veterans organization, all of Kingston.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Lucille T. Chikey, on May 14, 2011. Also preceding him in death were brothers, John and Paul; sisters, Mary Seasock and Wilma Kuzemka.

Surviving are sons, Carl E. and his wife, Molly; Richard J. and his wife, Patricia, both of Kingston; grandsons, P.J., Michael, Christopher and Richard; granddaughter, Megan Waxman; great-granddaughter, Arianna Joy Waxman; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Kachmar will be at 9:30 a.m. Friday from the Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston, followed by an Office of Christian Bural with Divine Liturgy at 10 a.m. in St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Mykhaylo Prodanets as celebrant. Interment with Rite of Committal will be at St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic "Pokrova" Cemetery, Pringle. Friends are cordially invited to a visitiation with the family 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday. Panachida service will be conducted at 6 p.m.

Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, 321 Chestnut Ave., Kingston, PA 18704.

We are so sorry for the loss of Uncle Emil. He will be deeply missed. Take peace in knowing he has joined Aunt Lucy, his siblings, parents and other loved ones who have passed on. We are so sorry that we will cannot be there with all of you, but we will be there in spirit. All of you are in our thoughts and prayers! We love you all!

I grew up on a great street, Division St., in Kingston. Emil Kachmar, and his family, was a big part of that. My prayers go out for Emil and family. Thanks for making our street as warm, fun, and safe as a neighborhood can be.
