Thoughts and prayers to the family during this difficult time.
I really appreciate and enjoy the memories from my childhood when we went to visit my grandparents who lived next door to Uncle George, Aunt Sandra and my cousins George, Wayne, and Donna. I would always go and visit them as soon as we got to my grandparents. I remember swimming in their pool during the summer visits and spending many holidays together at my grandparents´ house! So much fun and great times! RIP Uncle George.

Love,
Bill Glennon

Mr. Davenport was my homeroom teacher at West Pittston High School in the early 60´s. He taught at the time a rather strangely titled civics course ( which many disliked) called POD or Problems of Democracy. So he introduced us who listened to him the concept of critical thinking! One can´t ask for much more from a teacher. On another side of his humanity he drove my aged grandmother from Plymouth up to West Pittston to visit her daughter, my mom every week or so. He was one of the good guys!!!

Mr. Davenport was my civics teacher at West Pittston High School back in the early 60´s. I was actually in his class the moment JFK was shot. He was quite the character. I was a wise guy in school and Mr. D. and I weren´t friends but I respected him and really never forgot him. My sincere condolences to his family and friends.

George was the patriarch of Pocono Fire. He was instrumental in the implementation of many things we take for granted today, such as the transition from ABC extinguishers to PK, the implementation of 125 PK's on the safety trucks and pit road, newer more modern safety trucks, our transition from orange jump suits to our present Nomex fire gear and helmets and portable radios for all positions. He was the first to start a bona fide training system before our present system was implemented, along with many other changes during his tenure. Chief George was a no-nonsense, no "mulligan" type of guy who did not stand for any screw ups. You screw up, you were gone! No argument, no excuses. He ran a tight ship and was respected by all who knew and understood his management ways. He may have been short in height, but he was ten foot tall in character and many of us that are in a better position at Pocono now owe it to George's belief in us and let us grow and with his guidance made us who we are today.

Rest in Peace Chief Davenport, your thoughts and guidance will always stay with us, and will always respect the love you had for our sport and our family at Pocono Raceway. Godspeed my friend.
With Sadness,
Dave Richards
