George "Jim" Shoemaker, 89, of Shickshinny died Wednesday afternoon, September 19, 2012, in the Hospice Community Care Unit, Wilkes-Barre.
Born July 25, 1923, in Shickshinny, he was a son of the late James and Ethel (Noss) Shoemaker.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and participated in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Rhineland, and Central Europe. He was first employed by the former Prince's Garage, Shickshinny. For over 20 years, he and his wife owned and operated Dot and Jim's Restaurant in Shickshinny. He was a member of the former Shickshinny VFW post.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Dorothy McDaniels, who died March 24, 2008, and by brothers, Harry, Robert, Melvin, and Thomas Shoemaker.
Surviving is a son, David Shoemaker and his wife, Jane, Shavertown; three granddaughters and their husbands, Diana and Kevin McClure, Amy and Matthew Link, JoAnne and Bryan Strawn; three great-grandchildren, Aidan, Lauren and Katie McClure; two brothers, Wayne and Elmer Shoemaker, both of Shickshinny; two sisters, Mrs. James (Shirley) Mullen, Florida, and Mrs. Joseph (Dorothy) Knouse, Shickshinny.
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Mayo Funeral Home Inc., 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, with the Rev. James Parks officiating. Burial will be in Sorber Cemetery, Reyburn. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m.

I'm so sorry to read of George (Jimmy's) passing. I was blessed to take care of him as a patient. He had a great sense of humor, and spoke very highly of his children. Peace be with you at this time.
