Henry Nardone Obituary

Henry F. Nardone, Ph.D., former professor of philosophy at King's College, Willkes-Barre, died Nov. 24, 2023, in Lewes, Delaware. He was 86.

Born in Wilkes-Barre to Enrico and Assunta Nardone, he lived in Luzerne County for much of his life, most recently at Harveys Lake. After graduating from G.A.R. High School, Nardone became the first member of his family to go to college, earning an undergraduate degree from King's in 1960. He continued his education at the Catholic University of America, in Washington, D.C., where he earned his Master's Degree and Doctorate.

He spent the early years of his teaching career at the University of San Francisco, in San Francisco, California, before returning to Wilkes-Barre in 1970, to take a position at his alma mater. He spent the next 40 years teaching at King's, serving many of them as the chairperson of the philosophy department. In addition to numerous scholarly articles to his credit, he was a co-author, with several King's colleagues, of "Critical Thinking: A Student's Introduction," a widely used college textbook.

Nardone married Betty Jane (Beth) Krisulevicz, of Plymouth, Pa., in 1968. They shared a lifetime of enjoying their three children and extended families, as well as traveling extensively throughout the United States and the world (visiting more than 30 countries together). An avid racquetball player and home improvement DIY'er for much of his adult life, Nardone enjoyed sailing and gardening in his retirement.

In addition to his wife, Nardone is survived by three children: Enrico Nardone (Deborah Rebore), of Baldwin, N.Y.: Nicole Nardone (Shane Ottmann) of Baltimore, Md.; and Eric Nardone (Siobahn Maguire) of Pacific Grove, Calif.; as well as six grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial Mass will be held at the Chapel of Christ the King, at King's College, Wilkes-Barre, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.

Henry was one of the best men I have ever known. A dear friend and kindred spirit, he and I were colleagues at King's for four years. We co-taught, went fishing, played racquetball, and lots besides. So many precious memories. The world is poorer without him but richer for having had him. Deepest condolences to all who loved him and to all he loved so well. I look forward to seeing him again.

Dr. Nardone was my chairperson when I was an undergraduate Philosophy/English major at King's College. He was a very kind and caring man. May God grant him eternal rest, and console his family and all those who love him.
