NANTICOKE — Irene Hvozda, 93, of Nanticoke, passed away Friday, Oct. 22, 2021, a patient at Allied Services, Meade Street, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Sept. 26, 1928, in Nanticoke, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Anna (Lojaski) Frankowski.
She married Michael Hvozda on Sept. 17, 1949, and shared 64 years of marriage until his passing on Feb. 10, 2014.
Irene was employed for 40 years as a seamstress in the local garment industry and later assisted her daughter, Donna, at Shelley's Pizza, Wilkes-Barre.
She was a life-long member of Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hanover section of Nanticoke, and active in the Mother's Group, Pierogi ladies and cleaning of the church.
In addition to her husband, Michael, she was preceded in death by brothers, Bernard and Stanley Frankowski, and a sister, Adeline Baranowski.
Surviving are her daughters, Mary Ann Jarolen, of Nanticoke, and Donna Davis, of Plymouth; grandchildren, Jennifer Jones (Thomas), Shelley Davis Jr. (Beth) and Michalene Davis (Kiel Swartwood); a great-granddaughter, Faith Montana Davis; a sister, Henrietta Golaszewski, of Taylor, Mich.; a sister-in-law, Maria Frankowski, of Texas, as well as nieces and nephews.
Funeral Liturgy will be 11:30 a.m. Thursday at Holy Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, 240 Center St., Hanover section of Nanticoke, with the Rev. Roman Petryshak officiating.
Interment will follow in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke.
Viewing and visitation will be Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
