James Burgio Obituary

J ames R. Burgio of Pittston passed away Monday afternoon at Mercy Hospital, Wilkes-Barre.
Born November 28, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph and Josephine Cavall Burgio. He was a graduate of St. John’s High School, Pittston and was a member of St. Mary Assumption Church, Pittston. Mr. Burgio served his country with honor during World War II. He was a torpedo man who made several war patrols in the Pacific, aboard the submarine USS Rasher. He was a member of Submarine Veterans of World War II and was active in the organization for a number of years. He was a self-employed cabinet maker.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Della Rostock, R.N.
Surviving are his wife of 58 years, the former Helen Ardo; daughters, JoAnn Polidori, Plains, and Judy Burgio, Pittston; sons, Joseph, Los Alamitos, California, and Richard, Pittston; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 30, 2005, at 9 a.m. from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 802 Susquehanna Ave., West Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in St. Mary Assumption Church, Church Street, Pittston. Interment will be in St. Rocco Cemetery, Pittston Township.
Friends may call Wednesday, June 29, 2005, from 5-9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to St. Mary Assumption School, 41 Carroll Street, Pittston, PA 18640.
