WILKES-BARRE — James C. "JC" Capristo, 68, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2024, with his family by his side in his final moments.
He was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 7, 1956, son of the late Michael and Mary Lou Capristo. Jim was a graduate of Meyers High School, Class of 1974. He then moved to New Iberia, Louisiana, and worked off shore on the oil rigs before moving back to Pennsylvania in 1986. He worked as a union electrician with IBEW 163 for over 25 years.
Jim's departure comes as a deep wound, and it is gravely felt by his entire family and countless others who loved him deeply. Jim was strong-willed and stubborn at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was clever and full to the brim with knowledge gained through all of his life experiences. He always had a strong desire to explore the great outdoors and was an avid hunter since the age of 12, spending time with his father, brother, son, and friends on Miller's Mountain near Tunkhannock.
Whatever he did, he was all in! He loved music, particularly blues, reggae, and bluegrass. He was a huge fan of the Native American culture, woodworking, and the New Orleans Saints. He demonstrated an insatiable curiosity and embodied the wonder of knowledge. He had a lifelong love of forming relationships with people, and cherished the friendships he established. His humor, lightheartedness, generosity, and free-spirited character won over the hearts of those who knew him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Mary Lou Capristo; brother Michael; wife, Sherry Metz Capristo, and second wife, Cindy Zarychta.
Jim was a devoted brother, uncle, father and grandfather. He will forever be remembered by his daughter, Jamee Capristo; son, Nicholas James Capristo and his partner, Janel Golightly; grandchildren: Sebastian, Sophia, and Teaguen Rucco; Braden Capristo; Lux and J.P. Hopkins; sister, Cathy Scocozzo, and her husband, Bob; nephew/godson, Michael Scocozzo; niece, Mia Scocozzo; goddaughter, Paige Gilbert Louque; and many relatives out of state.
Jim will be remembered during a private service attended by close family members. At a later time, a memorial service and celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family deeply appreciates your support during this difficult time. In addition, the family wishes to thank the exceptional team of skilled professionals of Glen Brook Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Berwick, Pa.; and Commonwealth Hospice Services.
In lieu of traditional mourning and flowers, the family asks that you make a toast to good friends, family and life, while reflecting on Jim's remarkable life.
Arrangements are by Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre.

When he would come in from offshore, he and Sherry lived in New Iberia . He and Sherry would have barbecues, dinners at their house for family and friends. He enjoyed being around friends and family. Sherry loved that he was a kind, loving person. Everyone loved doing things with him and Sherry because they were fun, and he always people when needed.
