HUNLOCK CREEK — Jane M. Whitesell, RN, 85, of Hunlock Creek, passed away on Jan. 2, 2022, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after a brief illness.
Born Dec. 11, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Harrison and Jennie (Sutton) Meikrantz. Jane was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Carson L. Whitesell, on Aug. 18, 2014.
Jane graduated from Shickshinny High School, Class of 1954, and Nesbitt Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1957. She also earned a master's degree from College Misericordia.
Mrs. Whitesell was a school nurse, retiring from the Northwest Area School District. She was a member of the Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church in which she held several positions throughout the years and belonged to the Shick-Shawnee Chapter of Eastern Star.
In addition to her husband, Carson, she was preceded in death by sisters-in-law, Jean Whitesell, Lois Whitesell and Alberta Hartman; brothers-in-law, Damon Whitesell, Gordon Whitesell and Dayton Hartman; and a nephew, Damon Whitesell.
Jane is survived by her daughter, Karen Korea and her husband George; a grandson, Dr. Matthew Korea and his fiancée, Lisa Crivelli; nieces and nephews, Bridget Whitesell, Douglas and Susan Whitesell, Jan Whitesell and Frank and Jody Guerrieri. She is also survived by many great-nieces and nephews whom she loved, and many cousins and close friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 8, at Oakdale Cemetery with the Rev. James McGee, her pastor, and the Rev. Daniel Brubaker, pastor of Roaring Brook Baptist Church, officiating.
Memorial contributions can be sent to the Hunlock Creek United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 153, Hunlock Creek.
Arrangements are in the care of Clarke Piatt Funeral Home Inc., 6 Sunset Lake Road, Hunlock Creek.

Jane was part of the finest generation ever ...Most wonderful nurse I ever met...Loved piano playing .I would visit Jane from time to time and play her piano at her home...She would make a wonderful lunch...loved her
