Johanna McGrady

Johanna S. McGrady, 89 of Plains Township, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 22, 2025, at River View Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Plains, with her family by her side.

Born July 25, 1936, in Plains Township, she was the daughter of the late Michael P. and Helen D. (Wender) Shedlock.

Johanna was a graduate of Plains Memorial High School, Class of 1954. She was employed in the area garment factories as a seamstress, with her former husband, the late Leo McGrady, at his appliance repair business, Plains Appliance Service, and last at Danko's All American Fitness, Plains, as a child care provider for customers.

She was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Township. She volunteered for several years at the Plains Township and Wilkes-Barre locations of the Osterhout Free Library. She enjoyed trips with her friends, but she most enjoyed the many vacations to various East Coast beaches with her daughters. You always knew by the smile on her face and the twinkle in her eye that her grandchildren or great-grandchildren were around her.

She was preceded in death by her infant brother, John "Jackie" Shedlock, and brothers, Michael and William Shedlock.

Surviving are her children, James McGrady, Michael McGrady, Robert McGrady, John McGrady, Karen McGrady Rogalski and Sharon McGrady Westawski; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family in Ss. Peter & Paul Cemetery, Plains Township. Arrangements are entrusted to Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township.
