WANTAGE, N.J. — John J. Caffrey Sr., 76, of Wantage, N.J., peacefully passed away on Friday, May 7, 2021, at his residence.
Born in Wilkes-Barre to the late Dr. John Jerome and Kathleen (Lavery) Caffrey, John grew up in Wilkes-Barre graduating from Scranton Prep and King's College before moving to Sussex County, N.J. He had been a teacher in Branchburg, N.J., before becoming a route salesman for Frito-Lay in Dover, N.J., retiring at age 62.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Angela (Garvey); his daughter, Christa Kallam and her husband Michael, of North Carolina; his son, John J. Caffrey Jr. and his fiancée Jennifer Terribile, of Branchburg, N.J.; his sisters, Kathy Grabiec and her husband Joe, of Wilkes-Barre; and Eugenia "Gigi" Wolensky and her husband Jack, of Shavertown; and four grandchildren, Ethan, Maddie, Noah and Michael Thomas.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 14, 2021, at Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas. Interment to follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, May 13, 2021, at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial contribution in John's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
