DUPONT — John Louis Gambino, 85, of Dupont, passed away Thursday, Dec. 10, 2015, at Hospice Of The Sacred Heart, Dunmore. Born in Dupont Dec. 20, 1929, he was the son of the late Frank and Mary Gambino.
He attended Dupont schools and entered the U.S. Army Infantry Division and served during the Korean War. After serving in the military, he was employed at Independent Explosives, Pittston Township, for 45 years. He was a member of the VFW Post 4909, Dupont and the AMVETS Post 189, Dupont, serving as a member of the honor guard. He was a member of St. Joseph Marello Church, Pittston.
John was a loving father, grandfather and friend. He enjoyed sitting around the dinner table with loved ones. John also enjoyed meeting friends at the mall or at McDonald's for coffee. His vegetable garden was always his pride. His kindness and sense of humor will truly be missed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Emma, who died April 8, 2008; his brother, Eddie Gambino; and sister, Rosemary Riccetti.
John is survived by daughters, Lynne Getz, Pittston, Kim Hesse and husband, Rich, Egg Harbor, New Jersey, Sandy Aston, Harveys Lake; grandchildren, Alyssa Getz and fiance, Jeff Bellas, Mountain Top, Kyle Getz, Pittston, Jonathan Aston, Harveys Lake; his brother, Bobby Gambino, Lititz, and companion, Helen Rebovich, Pittston.
The family wishes to give a special thanks to Kim Hart, RN. G.W.V. cardiology; Robin Fike and Roni Koval, Geisinger paramedics; Jennifer Mangan, RN; and Chrystal, N.A., for their compassionate care.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 9:30 a.m. Monday, Dec. 14, in St. Joseph Marello Parish, William Street, Pittston. Friends may call 9 a.m. to service. Military honors will be provided.

Dear Lynne, Kim and Sandy - We were sorry to read about your Dad's passing. We had very fond memories of your family. We enjoyed visiting and listening to him talk about his lovely daughters and their growing families. He always had a beautiful garden and we enjoyed his landscaping.
