John A. Welkey Jr., 77, of Wilkes-Barre, and formerly of Kingston, passed away Feb. 13, 2026, in Geisinger Wyoming Valley.
Born in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 22, 1948, John was the son of the late John A. and Shirley Kane Welkey. Residing on Lathrop Street in Kingston, John was a graduate of the Scranton School for the Deaf and was the first recipient of the school to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. John received an associate degree from Penn State Lehman campus in drafting/engineering. He was employed for several years as a kitchen designer by Betterhouse Kitchens, Wyoming, and later by Standard Coach, Nanticoke, until his retirement.
John was a member of St. Ignatius Loyola Parish, Kingston, where he proudly served as an usher and greeter.
Every year, John enjoyed his car purchases for the newest model and latest options.
Surviving are his siblings, David C., Boston, Mass.; Larry P. and his wife, Mary Ann, Larksville; Mark P. and his wife, Laura, Bentonville, Ark.; Diane L. Kuykendall and her husband, John S., San Jose, Calif.; and his nieces and nephews.
Funeral and interment for John will be private and held at the convenience of the family
Arrangements are by Hugh P. Boyle & Son Funeral Home Inc., 416 Wyoming Ave., Kingston.
