Joseph Buscemi Obituary

Joseph Cataldo Buscemi, 98, of Swoyersville, passed away June 14, 2025, in General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Pittston on Jan. 6, 1927, Joe lived a full and meaningful life rooted in love, service and quiet strength.

He was the son of the late Giochina (Luminia) Buscemi and Leonardo Buscemi. He is also preceded in death by his siblings, Salvatore "Sammy" Buscemi, Phillip Buscemi, John Buscemi and Mary Chimento.

Joe graduated from Pittston Area High School in 1945. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1945 and stationed in Korea. He was honorably discharged in 1946, after the end of WWII. In 1951, he proudly joined the United States Air Force, where he served both stateside and overseas until 1971, receiving an honorable discharge from McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey.

Following his military service, Joe worked as a dedicated postal worker until his retirement. He was known for his strong work ethic and unwavering reliability.

Joe was the beloved husband of the late Dolores "Dorie" Buscemi. He is survived by his loving daughters Michelle Buscemi, Swoyersville and Jacqueline Buscemi Krasavage, Larksville. He was preceded in death by his son, Joseph "Joey" Buscemi. He was a proud grandfather to Kurt Krasavage, Edwardsville; Michaella Pack, Pittston and a cherished great-grandfather to Nico Hromek, Pittston.

He is also survived by his siblings, Salvatore Buscemi of Wilkes-Barre and Grace Pudim of Kingston.

Joe was a devoted fan of the New York Yankees and Penn State football. He was an avid collector, always active, and had a love of music — Frank Sinatra and "GaGa." Known for his soft-spoken nature and incredible patience, Joe was happiest when bringing joy to others and helping those in need. Above all, he loved his family unconditionally and lived his life with grace and deep compassion.

Joe had a deep love for the outdoors and found joy in the simple beauty of nature — a passion he shared closely with his daughter, Jackie. A devoted dog owner, he kept his beloved companions close, caring for them with the same dedication he gave to every part of his life. Joe was a proud Swoyersville Little League coach, earning recognition for the positive impact he made on countless young athletes. Deeply rooted in his community, he was active in many clubs and organizations connected to Pittston's Italian and veteran communities.

He never turned down a good conversation — especially over a delicious meal. His daughter, Michelle enjoyed making whatever type of dish he had thought of that day — including some of his favorites, lobster and spaghetti. He had a special way of making everyone feel heard. Saturday morning breakfast at Agolino's in West Pittston, with his lifelong Pittston friends was a weekly dedication. At 98 years old, Joe carried a lifetime of wisdom, experiences and stories that he generously shared with those around him.

A service will be held on Wednesday from Graziano Funeral Home Inc., 700 S. Township Blvd., Pittston Township. Calling hours will begin at 10 a.m., with a blessing to follow at noon.

Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate the life of a truly remarkable man. Light food and refreshments will be served during calling hours.
