Joseph Mikula Obituary
Joseph J. Mikula Sr., of Wilkes-Barre, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital. Born July 25, 1933, in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph and Elizabeth Utter Mikula. Joseph attended Wilkes-Barre area schools and was employed most of his life at Allen Industries before becoming self-employed. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and sports fan. He was preceded in death by five grandchildren; sisters Jane Mikula and Betty Kochanski; and brother, Daniel. Surviving are his wife, the former Irene Pyzia, with whom he was married 55 years; son, Joseph J. Mikula Jr., White Haven; daughters, Sharon Wilcox, Wilkes-Barre; Jane Vanchure and her fiancé, James, Hunlock Creek, and Betty Anne Magyar and her husband, Joseph, Wyoming; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; brother William Mikula, Florida; sister Marge Layaou, Dallas, Lois Hogan, Wilkes-Barre, and Ruth Zeek, Dallas; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his best friend, Missy. Funeral services will be held at 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre. Friends may call Tuesday from 6 p.m. until the time of services.

Dear Irene, Sharon, Janie, Betty Ann and Joey (my forever best friend) - I am so sorry for the loss of Joe...I was shocked when my mom (Loretta) called me this morning to tell me. I have so many memories of Joe....Never a dull moment in the Mikula house - but honestly Irene and Joe were like my second parents. Our sincere condolences go out to all of you. I can tell you now that we will not be able to attend the services as mom just got out of the hospital herself but we will be there in spirit. Love to you all - and Joe - rest easy and God Bless! Although I didn't know your Dad, I do know the pain and sorrow death brings to families. And from the many visitors on his guestbook, you can tell he was a remarkable person who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. The Bible assures us God is healing the broken hearted ones and is binding up their painful spot. My deepest sympathy to you all.

To the family,
I am so sorry for Uncle Bub's transition. He's out there watching over you all, only with a better view now.
As a child, I always enjoyed coming over to visit but Uncle Bub's dogs always scared the hell out of me. He was always willing to help when someone came to him with a request, including me when I needed some welding many years ago. Her was a good man!
I can't be there but know that my heart is with you all. I am thinking of you and praying for you as well.
