Joseph "Giddu Joe" Morrash, of Anthracite Street, and formerly of McCarragher Street, Wilkes-Barre, passed away Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, after a struggle with heart disease.

Born Nov. 20, 1929, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Anthony and Jenny Elias Morrash. He was a 1948 graduate of E.L. Meyers High School where he played football. Initially serving in the Navy, Joe later served as an Army Staff Sergeant assigned to the 109th Field Artillery Regiment and deployed as a communications wireman during the Korean War.

A retired truck driver for Roadway Express Inc., Joe spent time and helped out at his son's home improvement store, TM Supply, in Luzerne for the past 32 years. He was a proud and dedicated member of St. Mary's Antiochian Church in Wilkes-Barre. He was also an active member of the McCarragher St. Card Club where he, his brother and friends played Pinochle for more years than we can count. Dad often commented that some of his best memories were all of us growing up as a family on McCarragher Street. "We had the best neighbors," he would say. Family always came first with dad. He was a tough man, caring and wise in his counsel to all of us, while always encouraging and allowing us to independently make our own decisions in life. "He didn't tell us how to live; he lived and let us watch him do it." (Clarence Budington Kelland).

He was a loving husband to our Mom, Connie, and missed her dearly after she passed in 2012. He was a dedicated and loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and a loyal friend to many. He touched more lives than we can ever imagine. God bless him in his journey home. His bright eyes and loving smile will be sorely missed by all.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Connie; his sister, Ruth Chrzanowski, and brothers George and John Morrash.

He is survived by his sisters, Mary Mamary and Catherine Allan; children, Judy Muskauski, of Baltimore; Joseph and his wife, Debra Morrash, of Irmo, S.C.; Tony Morrash, of Wilkes-Barre; Jane Tolomello and her husband, Sal, of Wilkes-Barre; and Joyce Morrash Zaykowski and her husband Lawrence, of Shavertown; grandchildren, Lauren Walsh and her husband Joseph, Matthew, Morgan, Tony, and Jennifer Morrash, Abrianna Tolomello and her longtime boyfriend Eric Gototweski, Carley and Sydney Perloff, Madi Zaykowski, two great-grandchildren (little blessings) on the way, and his adopted grandson Dominic Johnson. The family would like to thank Dr. Jim Juinta and Dr. Farook Shroff for their dedicated and personal care of dad over these many years.

Family and friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, at Mamary-Durkin Funeral & Cremation Services, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 5, 2021, with services at 11 a.m. in St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church. Interment will be in the Parish Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Those who desire may send memorial contributions to St. Mary's Antiochian Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre; St. Jude's Children Hospital, or Boys' Town.
