SHAVERTOWN — Joseph J. Noon, 79, of Long Branch, N.J., formerly of Shavertown, passed away Friday, Oct. 4, 2024, in Cooperman Barnabas Hospital, Livington, N.J.
Born in Woodbridge, N.J., he was the son of the late Joseph J. Noon and Josephine (Wilk) Noon. Joe was a 1964 graduate of Dallas High School. He was a proud veteran who served in the United States Navy, while stationed in Guam, during the Vietnam War. After serving his country, he worked in the construction industry, in refrigeration at ACME markets for almost 20 years, and later in the telecommunications and data industry. Joe retired, but truly never retired, staying busy working side jobs and always ready to lend a hand to family and friends.
Joe was a member of Gate of Heaven Parish in Dallas, for many years, a member of the VFW Kingston Post 283 and the American Legion Dallas, Post 672. He was a Fourth Degree of the Knights of Columbus, Luzerne, and a member of the Merritt Island FL Moose Lodge 2073.
A running fanatic, he would wake up on a Saturday to run from Dallas to Tunkhannock, and was proud of finishing multiple marathons with his family always cheering him on. Joe was very involved in youth organizations from Boy Scouts to youth sports. Coach Noon influenced many young athletes, including his children, and was instrumental in bringing girls' youth basketball to the Back Mountain. Coach Noon had tremendous success at the high school level in which he coached Dallas HS girls basketball to Wyoming Valley Conference and District Championships and PIAA State Tournament appearances.
Forever a sports enthusiast, Joe enjoyed watching Penn State Football, UConn Women's Basketball, and any College Women's Basketball or WNBA game. Most recently, his favorite sport became lacrosse, cheering on his grandson James. He loved playing a round of golf with his family.
A devoted husband to his wife, Diane, of 49 years, he cherished their time together. Joe's happiest moments were spent with his family whether traveling or just watching a game together at home. He was always proud to tell a stranger of his children's accomplishments. Joe was genuine, strong, and fiercely loyal. His smile and stories will be remembered by everyone he touched. The world lost a great one!
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by his sisters: Jean and Marion; and his brothers-in-law: Mike Homza and Tom McGlynn.
Surviving are his wife, the former Diane Homza; children: Joseph, Long Branch, N.J., and Jennifer, Long Branch, N.J.; grandson, James; sister, Beverly, Lake Winola; sister-in-law, Mary Homza, Edwardsville; and nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home, Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.

To Joe´s family and friends:
Joe was a talented athlete who was a vital member of Dallas´ initial two (2) championship football teams (1962 & 63) He was also a Vietnam veteran having served a tour of duty in the Navy patrolling the South China Sea. He later went on to contribute to his community in many ways, most notable of which was as coach of the girls basketball team. He will be remembered for his contributions. May he be at peace.

Dear Diane, Joseph, & Jennifer,
I was very sad to hear of Joe's passing. We have many great memories together. I will never forget him giving my 8-year-old son Mike a quarter for a great performance at a T-ball game. Joe was the finest example of a husband & father, and a real "Dad" in every sense of the word. He will be sadly missed.

I´m saddened to hear about Mr Noon´s passing. I pray that the family finds comfort in the memories shared and the love and support that surrounds you. Growing up I have so many positive memories of Mr Noon from softball, to basketball, to field hockey he was a constant on the side lines and such a terrific role model.
