Linda N. Mainwaring, 71, of Mountain Top, passed away peacefully on Nov. 21, 2025.
Born Dec. 24, 1953, Linda spent her life dedicated to education, learning, and her community. She loved Christmas and put care into decorating and choosing gifts for friends and family, and she had been looking forward to this year's festivities. She spent much of her life reading and enjoyed visiting with her teacher friends, staying connected to the work and community she valued. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband of 49 years in their RV, exploring new places and local campgrounds, and spending summers at their lake house at Lake Adventure near Lord's Valley. Linda loved her family deeply and always had a soft spot for the pets she had over the years — both dogs and cats alike. She leaves behind three cats, Minnie, Winston, and Sophie; Minnie was her constant companion and protector whenever she was home.
She graduated from Wilkes University with her undergraduate degree and later earned her master's degree in reading from the University of Scranton. For over 30 years, she taught elementary school in the Crestwood School District, where she was deeply committed to her students, and she also served as president of the Luzerne County Reading Council. For many years, she was actively involved as a member of Christ United Methodist Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Frank Neher Jr. and Susanne M. Neher.
She is survived by her husband, John R. Mainwaring III, and her daughter, Jennifer Keeler (husband, Scott), of Fountain Hill, Pa.
Other family members include her brother, Frank Rudolph Neher (wife Mary); her nephew, Frank Victor Neher (wife Sam); her niece, Susi (husband Lucas); her aunt, Joan Neher; as well as members of the Mainwaring family: her mother-in-law Ann Mainwaring, Cathy Silveri (husband Fred), her niece Cassy Malenovitch (husband Matt), and dear family friend Patti Brogna.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Kerrigan and the dedicated nursing staff at Mountain Top Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, as well as Serenity Hospice Care, for their compassionate care.
A visitation will begin at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Miner Congregational Church, 137 Abbott St., Plains Township, with a service to follow at 11 a.m., led by Pastor Fred Croop and Cassy Malenovitch. Interment will follow in the Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Carverton, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriner's Children's Hospital of Philadelphia or to Miner Congregational Church, in her memory.
