SHAVERTOWN — Marie C. Heidel, 87, formerly of Shavertown, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014, at Lakeside Health & Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.
She was born in Larksville on Feb. 22, 1926, a daughter of the late George and Anna Medar Ontko.
She was educated in the Larksville schools and was a member of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church, Pringle.
Marie married Harold Heidel in 1946. They celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary on May 25, 2001, 16 days before Harold passed away.
Marie spent her life taking care of her family, making their lives special. She loved to bake, was an avid bowler and polka dancer as a young woman. Most of all, she gave us wonderful lasting memories. She will be sorely missed and in our hearts forever.
Along with her parents and beloved husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Reba, Aug. 2008; daughter, Elaine, June 2011; sister, Katherine, Feb. 2012.
Surviving are daughter, Donna Patton; brother, Stephen Ontko (Alberta); sister, Irene Evans; sister, Georgette Scutch (Frank); grandchildren, Jennifer Duesler (Sean), Adam Yarnal (Brooke), Jesse Yarnal (Heidi), Christa Gehr (Jonathan), Lauren Cable (Chris) and Cory Patton; eight great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Thursday at the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville. Interment will follow in Dennison Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. to services Thursday.
Her family thanks the staff at Lakeside Health & Rehabilitation Center for their constant support and wonderful care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer's Association of Greater PA, the activities fund of Lakeside Health & Rehabilitation Center, SPCA of Luzerne County or Blue Chip Animal Farm, 975 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
