KINGSTON — Mary Joyce "MJ" Hosey, 58, of Kingston, died on July 10, 2016, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township, after a fall at her home.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Donald E. and Mary (Dunleavy) Hosey. She graduated from Bishop O'Reilly High School and attended Wilkes College.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Donald Richard Hosey.
Surviving are her sisters, Margaret Ann (Robert) Fraley, White Haven, and Colleen H. Morda, Forty Fort; brothers, Joseph V. (Kathy) Hosey, Penn Lake, Vincent E. Hosey, Colorado, and Brian A. Hosey, Ohio; companion, Robert Burnside; nieces and nephews and her cat, Duke.
Mary Joyce was unique and interesting with a passion for life, love and giving. She always had a special spot in her heart for animals in need and went to great lengths to take care of them. There was never a family birthday or anniversary that went without recognition by a personal card or interesting gift. As a final expression of wanting to make a difference in the lives of others, Mary Joyce was an organ donor through The Gift of Life Donor Program.
Memorial contributions may be made in her name to Blue Chip Farms Animal Refuge, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Arrangements entrusted to the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home. For more information, or to send the family an online condolence, visit www.hughbhughescom.

Some define love as the need to possess another being in order to gain meaning in our own life. Try as I might, I could never have possessed MJ entirely because she belonged to all of us in equal shares. And to everyone--four-legged or two-who needed a little help, a hand up, a laugh, or just the most beautiful smile in the world. And I loved her that much more for all of it.

My condolences to MJ's family and friends. Calling her "memorable" is an understatement. Although sadly I haven't seen her in years, MJ was a kind, compassionate and entertaining woman with a passion for physical and mental fitness and a zest for living. She will be missed.

So long my friend mj. You were my most unusual unique kind hearted innocent animal loving friend i ever had. You'd give the shirt off your back to whomever needed it. But at times life was hard for you . And with that I know the journey that you are running in now is going to be the peace and quiet and beauty that you deserve. I'm so glad I got to be with you at the end. Thank you for being such a true friend You will be very missed, but always remembered. Your cat buddy, Peggy
