DALLAS — Mary Ann Sholtis, 94, of Dallas, passed away Thursday, May 23, 2024, at her home.
Born in Port Griffith, she was the daughter of the late John and Pauline Dvornicky Skochen. She graduated in 1946 from Plains High School. Mary Ann worked for the Dallas School District as well as the Dallas Acme Market.
She was a beloved mother and grandmother. She was a wonderful cook and could always be found in her kitchen preparing meals, canning and baking. Mary loved the Lord and was a faithful member of Gate of Heaven Church in Dallas. When she relaxed you could find her cheering on her favorite baseball team, the Atlanta Braves.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, Edward D. Sholtis, in 2019; her sister, Anne Brazinski, of Plains; and her brother, John Skochen, of Spotswood, N.J.
Surviving are her children: Judy, residing in Dallas; Thomas (Eileen), in Hunlock Creek; and her grandson, Brady, of Hunlock Creek. She is also survived by her siblings: Sophie Kryzwicki, Plains Township; Josephine Polinski, Plains Township; Rosalie Sorbelli, Wilkes-Barre; and Joseph Skochen, Shavertown; and several nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.
Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday from Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. in Gate of Heaven Church, 40 Machell Ave., Dallas. The Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic will serve as officiant. Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Wyoming. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
