Paul Devine Obituary

HANOVER TWP. — Paul J. Devine, 85, of Hanover Township, passed away Oct. 7, 2018, in Celtic Hospice, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.

He was the son of the late Paul and Anna Malloy Devine. He was born March 23, 1933, in Hanover Township. He graduated from Hanover High School in 1951 and joined the United States Navy. He served during the Korean Conflict on Destroyer USS Brownson. He later married Nancy Welliver in 1959 and they lived together in Lee Park, Hanover Township. Together they raised one daughter. He leaves as his legacy one child: Margaret Ann Devine Jayne and her husband, Brian, of Hunlock Creek. He also leaves to cherish his memory a grandson, Michael Devine, of Euless, Texas; one brother, John Devine, of Pittston; and several nieces and nephews. His friends and family remember him as a funny, friendly and generous man. He will be sadly missed by his good friends at the Alexis Tavern. However, with all of the silly pictures of him adorning the walls, he will always be there.

Paul was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy, and brother Thomas Devine. After his discharge from the Navy, Paul worked at Nelson Furniture and then Benco Dental. He retired at the young age of 83. Paul was a member and usher at St. Aloysius Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post 463, Plymouth. He was also a member of the Notre Dame Club of Hanover Township and St. Robert Bellarmine Parish.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Tiffany Court in Kingston and also the staff at Celtic Hospice. Funeral will be 9:30 a.m. Friday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Aloysius Church Wilkes-Barre. Interment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

Those who desire may give memorial contributions to SPCA, Fox Hill Road, Plains Township.

I am so sorry for your loss. Paul will be missed - he had the best sense of humor. I worked with him at Benco, and he was always able to make me laugh. And despite his "tough guy" exterior, he was really a sweetheart. May he rest in peace.

God has truly gained another angel. Paul will be missed by all. I remember when I first started at Benco a long time ago he was always there to help me with any questions I would have. His smile was very contagious and his love for Notre Dame. He will be truly missed. Fly high my friend until we meet again.
