Peter J. Matso, of Cleveland, Ohio, died peacefully at his home at the age of 60 on Sunday, July 27, 2025, following an illness.
Born in Harrisburg, Pa., he was the son of the late John and Sylvia Matso.
Peter attended Bishop McDevitt High School through his junior year in high school in Harrisburg, where he participated in several activities, including playing the saxophone in the marching band. Throughout high school, he was also lead guitarist in a rock band with his older brother John, who played the drums. They participated in events such as "The Battle of the Bands."
After the passing of his mother, Peter lived with his sister, Fran, in the home of his aunt Irene, now late uncle Sam and his three cousins in Mountain Top, Pa. He then graduated from Crestwood High School in Mountain Top.
Following high school, he served in the U.S. Navy Reserves. After the Navy, he moved to Cleveland to live closer to his older brother John, who was attending college there. Peter would then call the greater Cleveland area his home for the rest of his life.
After attending the Hickok Technical Institute, Peter was employed primarily as an industrial electrician in the field of automation and controls. He worked at corporations and government contractors throughout the Cleveland area, including Rockwell Automation Inc. and Mustang Dynamometer.
During the late 1980s to the early 2000s, Peter and his brother John played in multiple rock bands throughout the Cleveland area. Their bands performed all the popular rock hit songs mostly from the 1970s and 1980s.
During this time, Peter became a father to his son, Andrew. Peter's family eventually grew to now include Andrew's wife, Felisha, and their two beautiful children, Riley, 5, and Kaiden, 1. Becoming a grandfather to Riley and Kaiden brought great joy to Peter's life.
In his spare time, Peter loved to play guitar and enjoyed collecting a variety of guitars. He also loved working on his hobby car, a classic 1977 white Corvette. He really enjoyed taking the Corvette out for a spin on sunny summer days. Peter also loved talking with his sister Fran about cherished childhood memories, old jokes they shared and discussing all types of music they enjoyed. Peter also enjoyed working on and discussing his various home improvement projects with his son Andrew and brother-in-law Eric.
Peter had strong faith in God and believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior.
He is survived by his son, Andrew Lapchynski, and family, of Tennessee; his sister, Fran, and her husband, Eric Lysiak, of Maryland; his brother, John, of Clarks Summit, Pa.; his Aunt Irene Korey; and numerous cousins and relatives.
A Catholic funeral service will be held at 2 p.m Monday in the chapel at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Wyoming, Pa. The burial will follow immediately after.
