Richard "Rick" Tennesen, 77, of the Sheatown section of Newport Township, passed away late Monday evening, Nov. 24, 2025, under the care of Allied Services Hospice, Wilkes-Barre, following an acute illness and hospitalization.
He married Megan Lewis, his lifelong sweetheart since the seventh grade, on May 30, 1970. Together, they built a loving home and family on over 55 years of marriage.
Born Nov. 10, 1948, in Nanticoke, he was a son of the late Frederick and Eleanor Isbicki Tennesen. Rick graduated from Nanticoke High School, Class of 1969, and also graduated with honors from Luzerne County Community College, where he earned an associate's degree in maintenance and building technology.
Rick had a long career with the Greater Nanticoke Area School District, where he enjoyed the camaraderie with his coworkers and liked hanging out and sharing coffee with them. He also loved traveling, cheering on Penn State football, going out to eat, feeding the squirrels, but most of all, he cherished time spent with family and friends.
He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Alden.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Tennesen; and a sister, Elaine Kuchinski.
Rick is survived by his devoted wife, Megan; daughters: Richelle Nowak and her husband, Michael, and Megan Zaremba and her husband, Michael; and son, Richard R. Tennesen and his wife Shelby Tennesen; grandchildren, Zachary Nowak and his wife, Sara, Jordan Nowak, Tyler and Braden Zaremba, and Keira and Kolton Tennesen; great-grandson, Dean Nowak; brothers, Frederick and Robert Tennesen; as well as several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
