Robert Eaton Obituary

PITTSTON — Robert Eaton, 90, passed away March 29, 2015, at Aspen Healthcare Center. He was born in Yatesville.

Mr. Eaton joined the CCC Camp in Washington, D.C., during World War II. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for four years. He received training at Parris Island, South Carolina, and advanced training in New River, North Carolina. He served in the 3rd Marine Division, Guadalcanal. During World War II, Mr. Eaton served in Guam and the Battle of Iwo Jima. He received several combat ribbons with battle stars. After World War II, he joined the U.S. Air Force and retired in 1969 with 20 years of service.

After his military retirement, he worked for the U.S. Civil Service in roads and grounds at Fort Dix, retiring in 1989. He served as a volunteer for many years with outdoor recreation at Fort Dix. Mr. Eaton was a member of the Fort Dix Rod and Gun Club, and a member of the VFW (national and Dupont).

He was also a member of the Polish National Catholic Church, Lawrenceville, New Jersey.

He enjoyed spending a great deal of time fishing at the Lake of the Woods, Fort Dix.

Mr. Eaton was preceded in death by his mother and father, Robert and Bertha Eaton, Yatesville; his wife of 58 years, Irene, who passed away in 2003; and a sister, Ellen Jane Nierodzik.

He is survived by his daughter, Nancy, Browns Mills, New Jersey; brothers, LeRoy Eaton, Elmhurst Township, Edgar Eaton, Spring Brook Township; a sister, Sally Smallcomb, Spring Brook Township; brothers-in-law, Edward Marchak, Plains Township, and John Marchak (Marlene), Delaware, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Eaton is also survived by his beloved pets, Abbey, his cat whom he loved so much; dogs, Nelly and Molly; and Pooky, a cockatiel.

Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday from the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Holy Mother of Sorrows Polish National Catholic Church, 212 Wyoming Ave., Dupont. Military honors will be provided by the Dupont VFW, Post 4909. Interment will follow in Chapel Lawn Memorial Park, Dallas. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Polish National Catholic Church, 2300 Princeton Pike, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648; or to the Burlington County Animal Shelter, 35 Academy Drive, Westampton, NJ 08060.
